Every devotee appreciates the opportunity of offering robes during Kathina or robe-offering ceremony. It was a big gathering of Dhamma friends during Kathina Day and a total of 9 Sayadaws attended the ceremony. The Dhamma hall was so crowded it could not accommodate the number of devotees and visitors. We should treat this as a good sign to the centre that our devotees, Dhamma friends and members have increased. We understand how important the Kathina or robe-offering ceremony is to the centre and also to our Sangha.
As stated by Sayadaw U Pannathami during the Dhamma talk on Kathina ceremony (15th October 2011), devotees can only perform robe-offering to the Sangha or community of monks once a year. Thus, one should not choose which monk to offer the robe to because the Sangha will decide who shall own the Kathina robe based first on the needs and secondly by seniority.
He also explained how the Kathina robes offering was started...
Kathina, robe offering signifies the ending of the three months Rainy Retreat (Vassana). This tradition has been passed down since the time of the Buddha. Once some monks after observing the three months rain retreat were going to the Monastery at Savatthi where the Buddha was staying. By the time they arrived, they were thoroughly drenched and soaked to the skin by a heavy downpour. Upon seeing this, the Buddha prescribed that the laity may offer robes to the monks who have completed the Vassana. (Bearing in mind that the monks at the Buddha’s time were supposed to be clad in discarded rags, the offering of a robe must have been indeed a very special gift.)
We would like to thank our Kathina Main sponsors 2011 for their generosity. 1. Teoh Cheok Yen and Family, Penang, Malaysia 2. Daw Khin Hla Maw, U Myint Thein & Daw Ninn Yee Pwint (Grandson) Tracey Thein. Joshur Thein 3. Daw Khin Than Kywe, Daw Khin Sann Win & Daw Aye Than
We greatly appreciate your contribution such as dana, your voluntary help in the preparation of Kathina Day and cleaning up after the event. The ceremony was a success because of your participation and support. We'd like to invite you again to come and join us next year.
Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!

We are pleased to announce that one month retreat in September will be organised for our Dhamma friends. This retreat is split into 3 sections (10 days retreat per section)
Interested Yoigs are encouraged to register for the dates you wish to practice meditation. There will be limited places for overnight yogis and early registration is appreciated to secure a place. Short term and day yoig’s are invited to register for this rare opportunity. SWAN donors for Yogis are invited to advise the centre. Arrangements can be made for donor who cannot offer by themselves.
There were chanting and Dhamma talks during the retreat. We welcome our Dhamma friends to participate in the session though you are unable to attend meditation. Most of us have beneficiated so much from the Dhamma Talk and we know it is something worth to bring home and share with friends from time to time.
The committee was thankful to all the volunteers and Dhamma friends for their support and help. Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!

We celebrated Sayadaw U Pannathami's 63rd birthday on 21st May 2011 at Villawood Senior Citizen Hall
It's really delighted to see that 3 other Sayadaws and lots of Dhamma friends come together to celebrate his birthday. The lunch table was filled with different dishes of Burmese food as our Devotees brought cooked food from their home to offer them Sayadaws.
All Dhamma friends sang the birthday song for Sayadaw and he then cut the birthday cake. Sayadaw also gave Dhamma talks in the afternoon to practice meditation whenever there is time and to remember Buddha's talks while you are facing the danger.
May all devotees and well-wishers rejoice and share in these merits accrued from this Dhamma-dana. May these merits of our doners be a good pre-condition for the attainment of Nibbana. May you and your family be blessed with peace and happiness always.
Sadhu, Sadhu, Sadhu.

At 6.50pm on 15th Nov 2010, all stitches are completely removed from Sayadaw's head. He is physically and mentally well.
Sayadaw U Pannathami had head operation at Westmead Private Hospital on Tue, 9th Nov 2010 to remove lesion.
It went successful and he is recovering very well. He will be discharged from Hospital on Tue (16th Nov) or Wed. Thanks so much for all your support and suggestion.
On Wednesday, 3rd November, Sayadaw U Pannathami was admitted to Westmead Hospital in Sydney. He apparently had a seizure like activity on early hour of that morning (i.e. after the night he came back from Kathina Robes ceremony in Melbourne).
He then had a CT scan where he was found to have a lesion. As a result, he was scheduled to go operation on 9th Nov as to remove it.
We pray Sayadaw will regain better health and continue Vipassana teaching.
