Silence is Golden
The Sayadaw U Pannathami wishes to share the following nice poem with his Dhamma firends and he hopes everyone will like it.
Enjoy the silence...
Enjoy being alone... without any noise...
This is the best time when you can be mindful...
This is the time when you know where your mind is going...
This is the time when you know what you see, hear, smell, taste or touch...
This is the only time when you are aware of what is going on within you...
and not what other people are doing / saying/ thinking...
This is the only time when you mind your own business...
This is the time when you build your inner strength...
Learn to be alone at all times...
Away from all the noises...
What they are talking about is not my business... nor is it yours...
Even if it is judgement about me or you, let them be...
They think they needed to pass judgement...
It does not mean you or I have to do the same...
Even if it is about the world, let them be... it is none of my business...neither is it yours...
I came to this world alone and so did you...so did they...
We have our own "life" and we have to do what we came here for according to our Karma...
We have to do them before we leave... before our time is up...
For me, there is only one most important thing in life...
To know myself... To be mindful of what I am saying... what I am doing... what I am thinking...
To know it - if I am saying what I should not be saying...
To know exactly what I should not be doing...
To know it - if my thoughts are running wild and hard to catch...
Until today, I have existed 49 yrs on this earth but I have "lived" only 3 yrs.( as a Buddhist)!
I do not know when I will see you again... neither do I know when I will go...
I do not know what is next... and I do not know what is going to happen later...
I take this opportunity to share my thoughts with you... while I can...
Please take each day, each hour, each minute, each second seriously...
Be mindful! Be mindful! Be mindful!
Don't waste your life... Talking! Talking! Talking!
Talking about others... Talking about you... Talking about plans for the future... Talking about your dreams...
There may not be tomorrow... There may not be another second...
Don't waste time...
Talk is cheap! You don't need to pay money...
But your life is not cheap... You can't buy your life with money...
We are living in the era of Buddha sassana...
Please don't get lost while you are doing what karma has set forth for you in your life ...
Be mindful of what you say, what you think, what you do while you do your duties in life...
Please apply only the methods thought by Buddha in dealing with daily life...
Please think in terms of Metta even if others treat you bad...
Please follow the middle path set by the Buddha...
Please do not complicate your life...
Please learn to "see" but do not "look"
Please learn to "hear" but do not "listen"
Please learn to "chew" but do not "taste"
Please learn to know the "sense of odor" but do not "smell"
Please learn to know the "feelings in your body" but do not analyse them
Please learn to know "your thoughts" but do not follow them
Learn to keep silence within you - do not talk in your mind! It is too noisy...
Learn to keep silence with others - do not talk unless you absolutely have to! It is too noisy...
Buddha speaks only when necessary...
Let the words from your mouth be Dhamma and only Dhamma
Not about complaints, not about misery, not about anger - It shows lack of mindfulness!
Not about happiness, not about sadness, not about gossips - It shows unsteadiness of your mind.
Do not talk about the future, do not talk about the past but talk about the present moment... in a few words...
You and only you can strengthen your mindfullness
You and only you can create your karma - whether good or bad
It is not others around you who complicate your life
It is you and only you who complicate your own life... due to lack of mindfulness...
So let us not waste seconds of our lives... whatever we may have...
Treat all Sentient Beings with Metta...
Do not make noise...Stay away from noise...
Do not take in all the senses that you experience in life and analyse them...
But be mindful and drop them... like a dew drop that hits the leaf and fall off to the ground...
Do not hold on to any sensation... whether good or bad... nothing lasts forever...
Let your goal in life be mindfulness... without that you can't reach nibbana...
Silently, strenghten your mindfullness!
Silence is golden
